The Blame Game

While listening to a podcast, I heard them talking about when sin first entered the world. FYI, it's in Genesis 3. Instead of reading just Genesis 3, I read 2 chapters before, and dare I say, I’m impressed with God. There was no perception of time, and no one was rushing. Hi,m and he still got it done in 7 days. No, 6 sorry. He rested on the 7th. Can you even imagine? I sure can’t. I attend school 5 days a week and need 2 months of recovery. Anyway, I got to Genesis 3 and I ended it a little confused. Here's what I comprehended: Serpent chats it up with Eve, gets her to eat the fruit, she gives some to Adam, they both find out they were naked, God catches them in 4k, curses the serpent, punishes Adam & Eve, makes them clothes, and sends them away. The thing I didn’t fully understand is what Adam did wrong. The only reason he ate the fruit was that his wife gave it to him. I re-read it, I wanna say 5 times before I fully understood the entire message. First things first, let’s address the naked thing. In Genesis 3, God didn’t get mad that they were naked. They all, in fact, already knew, but up until that point, being naked didn’t bother them. They were unashamed. So what upset God altogether was what made them ashamed. They were actually hiding because of the sin they committed.  God’s like, Who told you that you were naked? The only way you would know that is if you ate from the tree that I told you not to. The point I want to make is, if God already knows about your shame and wrongdoing, why hide? Confess right away.

Realization number 2: their responses. While going on my millionth re-read, I paid closer attention to the responses made by each of them.  Adam said, "The woman you put here with me gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it". Eve said: "The serpent deceived me, and I ate". The serpent said nothing. That says a lot about his character. He has all this talk to get you to do what he wants to do, but he will never have your back. But God, on the other hand, will never leave you nor forsake you ( Hebrews 13:5). Okay, back to the responses. Let’s start with Eve; she took accountability, but not full accountability. She chose to drag someone else with her. ( not that he didn't deserve it). Now to Adam, oh Adam. Not only did he take zero accountability, but he also blamed Eve in addition to blaming God. Did anyone notice what he called Eve? THE woman. Not my woman. Not my wife. Not the person I followed when I was supposed to be a leader. Which brings me to the punishments & reasons behind them. Eve's punishment was that she was going to experience childbirth painfully and that her husband was going to rule over her. Notice how she didn’t protest to this; the reason was because of the man Adam was. She knew that she could submit to Adam willingly and be okay. The lesson from that is that when the right man comes along, you’ll have no problem committing and submitting. Commitment means raising his children, trusting his judgment, and ensuring that his values align with the Bible. Now, onto Adam, God's punishment included a cursed ground from which he would toil for food by the sweat of his brow; the eventual return to the dust from which he was made. Notice again, no protest. Not because of what he was working on, but who he was working for. This was not an easy punishment, so God forgive me if I’m wrong, but Adam knew that he had to work hard to provide for his family, and as a Man of God, that should never be a problem, that’s your wife! Those are your children! I’m gonna leave an unhonorable mention to what happened to the serpent, just know God stands up for his own, okay. The punishment for all Human creation is to return to the dust just as they came. And the serpent's punishment was to crawl along the dust that we walk on every day.
