My Body, My Gift

This morning, I was reading the book of 1 Corinthians, specifically chapter 12, where Paul discusses the different parts of the body and how they represent the various gifts we receive. Last night, I watched a documentary called "Super Size Me" (I highly recommend it; it could change your life), which got me thinking about the human body—its heart, lungs, stomach, and bladder. Each part has a unique function, yet they are all essential for survival.

I began to reflect on what part of the body I might be. I felt God telling me that I am like a liver. In the documentary, the doctor explains that even if the liver is damaged and fatty, eating the right foods daily can help it return to a normal state. This shows that the liver is incredibly resilient and can recover from many challenges.

I’ve been through a lot in my life, but choosing to follow Jesus has helped me heal and achieve a healthier mental state. Paul explains that we can’t all be the same part of the body, as that's not how it functions. We can’t all be ears because then we wouldn’t be able to see. We can’t all be hearts because then how would we breathe?

I see a connection between the different parts of the body and the various gifts God gives us. For example, a heart might symbolize someone with a lot of compassion, while lungs could represent someone with a beautiful singing voice for God. The liver, with its resilience, might represent a person who can endure negativity while boldly preaching the gospel. Even the bladder plays an important role, akin to those who filter out hypocrites and individuals who misrepresent the Church of Jesus Christ.

In the end, Paul emphasizes that some parts may seem less important than others, but we are all interdependent, and we should honor and desire each part in every way.
